The English coined the name allspice in the 1600s when they believed the actual plant to come from the combination of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. True allspice comes from a fragrant shrub, and the actual preparation involved drying and crushing the berries. However, in a pinch, this recipe can replace the common ingredient in many Caribbean and British cuisines.

  • 1 tsp Nutmeg
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Cloves

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a Mortar and use a Pestle to grind them together.
